Freedom Run

The Hernando County YMCA Freedom Run is always a powerful reminder of the importance of coming together as a community to honor the heroes we lost on September 11, 2001. This annual event brought families, friends and neighbors together not only to run and walk but also to reflect, remember and show gratitude for the courage and sacrifice of so many.

This year’s Freedom Run was a success thanks to the incredible support of our participants, volunteers, sponsors and community partners. Every step taken helped strengthen our mission by ensuring the Y can continue offering programs and scholarships so that no one is ever turned away due to financial hardship.

In addition to the run, this year’s event featured plenty of family-friendly activities, including a water slide, climbing wall, music and more.

“The Freedom Run is a special event for our Y and our community,” said Kent Reiber, Executive Director of the Hernando County YMCA. “As a runner myself, this is one of my favorite branch events of the year. Coming together on 9/11 reminds us of the importance of honoring the lives lost, the courage of our first responders and the strength we find when we unite as one.”

On behalf of the Hernando County YMCA, thank you to everyone who participated, supported or volunteered at this year’s Freedom Run. Your involvement not only made the event meaningful but also allowed us to carry forward the spirit of remembrance, resilience and community that defines this day.

We look forward to seeing you at next year’s run as we continue this important tradition!
