Green shirts, fresh air and a whole lot of community spirit—this year’s Hernando YMCA Shamrock Shuffle 5K & 1-Mile Fun Run was a celebration of movement, connection and purpose.
Hosted by the YMCA of the Suncoast at Russell Street Park in Brooksville, participants gathered bright and early, many dressed in festive green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. The morning kicked off with registration at 7am, followed by an energetic race start at 8:30am, as runners and walkers of all ages made their way through the course.
From competitive runners pushing their pace in the 5K to families and kids enjoying the 1-mile fun run, the event created space for everyone to be part of something meaningful. The energy at the starting line, the cheers along the route and the sense of accomplishment at the finish line made it a memorable day for all.
More than just a race, the Shamrock Shuffle is an opportunity to give back. Proceeds from the event directly support the Hernando YMCA Annual Campaign, helping ensure that individuals and families in our community have access to YMCA programs and services, regardless of their financial situation. From youth programs and swim lessons to wellness initiatives and family activities, this support helps make it possible for more people to learn, grow and thrive.
Executive Director Kent Rieber, an avid runner and enthusiast, shared:
“There’s nothing like the energy of a race day, especially when it brings our community together. As a runner, I know how powerful it is to set a goal and push yourself, but what makes the Shamrock Shuffle so special is seeing people of all ages and abilities show up, support each other and have fun doing it. Knowing that every step also supports our Annual Campaign makes it even more meaningful.”
Events like the Shamrock Shuffle 5K & 1-Mile Fun Run reflect what the Y is all about—bringing people together, encouraging healthy lifestyles and creating opportunities for everyone to feel connected and supported.
Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered and helped make this event such a success. Because when our community shows up for one another, incredible things happen.
