meeting of Crystal river task force for new ymca programs

On June 22nd, a meeting was held at the new YMCA Center, 405 S.E. 7th Avenue, Crystal River, 34429.

The partnership between the City of Crystal River and YMCA to introduce programs that will help revitalize this area and provide resources to residents to help create positive change and a healthy lifestyle is moving ahead.

Recently, the City of Crystal River provided the opportunity for the Citrus YMCA to utilize a 4,000 sq. ft. building for programs in the Jim Legrone Park area. The park area includes basketball courts, softball field, tennis courts, pickleball court, wall ball and sports fields. The center will be named the City of Crystal River YMCA Community Engagement Center.

“This was an opportunity for community stakeholders to engage in a task force to help assess unmet needs in the neighboring communities and programs that would help children, families and seniors live to their fullest potential,” says Joanna Castle, YMCA District Vice President. “There was strong representation from the community which included representatives from the school system, Sheriff's Office, staff from the City of Crystal River and other local leaders and YMCA Advisory Council members. Many ideas were shared about how to better connect the community and what programs youth need to help them grow and be successful. Also, a focus on supporting the needs of our older adults and programs for families.”
