You can be a role model to children after school! The YMCA of the Suncoast Youth Development team serves as role models to children after school. They provide support and encouragement to all students and lead them in curriculum-based activities including outdoor games, arts and crafts, STEM projects and provide assistance with homework. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic and compassionate individuals with leadership experience, excellent time management skills, and must enjoy working with children. Our programs serve Citrus, Hernando, Pasco and Pinellas counties.

Assistant Youth Development Specialist
This role is perfect for those who are interested in pursuing a career in youth development and/or child education. Assistant Youth Development Specialists work with Specialists and Assistant Directors to maintain a supportive and caring environment for children after school. They are responsible for leading children in activities including arts & crafts, STEM projects, character values, homework and indoor/outdoor games. This role is a challenging opportunity and is an in-depth experience leading children and a great first step in a youth development career.

Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Interest in a career in youth development
  • Must be available between  12:30pm - 6:30pm Monday - Friday
  • Pursuit of a high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Experience working with children is preferred


Youth Development Specialist
This role is an entry-level leadership role and a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about youth development and education (for example: college students and graduates, retired teachers and educators, etc.). Team members in this role have excellent leadership skills and are confident in engaging and encouraging children. The Youth Development Specialists are responsible for creating and maintaining a supportive, caring environment, and lead children in activities including arts & crafts, STEM projects, character values, homework and indoor/outdoor games. This role is an excellent opportunity to fine tune leadership skills while working with children.

Requirements 

  • Must be 18 years of age 
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have experience working with children
  • Must be available between  12:30pm - 6:30pm Monday - Friday
  • Associate degree (or higher) in a child development/education or related field is preferred


Assistant Youth Development Director
This leadership role is great for college students and recent graduates ready to pursue a youth development career. The Assistant Director leads groups of students in various indoor and outdoor activities, including but not limited to arts & crafts, STEM projects, homework and more. They assist the Director in curriculum planning and leading the team. The Assistant Director creates a nurturing, supportive environment for students while following safety protocols and maintaining accurate reporting. Team members in this role will engage students after school hours each school day. Along with the Youth Development Director, they are responsible for maintaining the program site meets all YMCA, state and county licensing requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age 
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be available between  12:30pm - 6:30pm Monday - Friday
  • Minimum of six college credit hours in early childhood or education or Florida Child Care Professional Certificate required
  • Associate degree (or higher) in a child development/education or related field is preferred
