Staff from HCA Florida-Largo Hospital present a $10,000 check to the YMCA of the Suncoast. The donation will sponsor health and wellness programs at the Clearwater Y in Motion and the Greater Ridgecrest YMCA.

The last few years have been challenging, and healthy living has taken a backseat for some community members. As an organization dedicated to building stronger, healthier communities, the Y is committed to supporting individuals on their journey to a healthy mind, body and spirit.

Thanks to a recent donation from HCA Florida-Largo Hospital, the YMCA of the Suncoast will be able to expand its life-changing services to even more members of the Clearwater and Largo Communities.

Representatives from HCA Florida-Largo Hospital joined YMCA of the Suncoast leaders to present the Y with a $10,000 check to sponsor health and wellness programs at the Clearwater Y in Motion and the Greater Ridgecrest YMCA.

“Caring for our community remains at the heart of our mission, whether through volunteering our time or making charitable donations. At HCA Florida-Largo Hospital, we are thrilled to partner with the YMCA of the Suncoast through sponsorship of their Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program, Weight Loss Program and LIVESTRONG® at the Y Program,” shares Adam Rudd, Chief Executive Officer at HCA Florida-Largo Hospital.

A portion of the funds will support the upcoming LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA cohort at the Clearwater Y in Motion. LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is a free, 12-week program offering support, guidance and training from certified cancer wellness coaches. The program focuses on physical and social activities for patients before, during and after cancer treatment.

In addition to the physical benefits of the program, survivors, patients and family members are provided a supportive community where people impacted by cancer can connect during treatment and beyond. By focusing on spirit, mind and body, LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA helps participants move beyond cancer, building muscle and strength, increasing flexibility and endurance and improving confidence and self-esteem.

The remainder of the funds will sponsor Weight Loss and Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring programs at the Greater Ridgecrest YMCA. Both programs are designed to teach lasting lifestyle changes to help improve one’s overall health.

Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring participants meet twice a month to discuss proper nutrition and receive personalized support to maintain cardiovascular health.

Participants in the Weight Loss program learn how to eat healthier, move more and lose weight during the 12-week program.

“The Weight Loss, Blood Press Self-Monitoring and LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA programs provide a supportive environment for participants to learn the tools they need to meet their goals,” says Shannon Sprowls, Vice President of Healthy Living for the YMCA of the Suncoast.

“With the support of HCA Florida-Largo Hospital, we can further our mission of offering programs that build a healthy mind, body and spirit for all.”
