Six Citrus County YIG Students Selected for YMCA CONA Conference
The YMCA of the Suncoast is proud to announce that six students from our Citrus County Youth in Government program have been accepted to attend the YMCA Youth Conference on National Affairs (CONA), a conference held each summer in North Carolina.
CONA brings together high school students from across the country for a week of learning, collaboration and meaningful conversation around issues impacting communities nationwide. Throughout the experience, students build confidence, strengthen communication skills and gain a deeper understanding of leadership and civic engagement.
The students attending are part of the Nature Coast Chapter of Youth in Government, one of the most active and growing chapters in Florida. Through the YMCA’s Youth in Government program, students participate in hands-on experiences that encourage leadership development, civic responsibility and confidence both inside and outside the classroom.
Being selected to attend CONA is a major accomplishment and reflects the hard work, dedication and leadership these students have demonstrated throughout the year. During the conference, students will have the opportunity to debate policy proposals, collaborate with peers from across the nation and engage in meaningful conversations about current issues impacting communities nationwide.
The YMCA of the Suncoast remains committed to creating opportunities that empower youth through leadership, service and personal growth. Programs like Youth in Government continue to provide students with valuable experiences that extend far beyond the classroom and help shape the next generation of community leaders.
As these students prepare to represent Citrus County and Florida at this year’s conference, they also represent the YMCA’s mission of strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
