Helping Students Start the School Year Strong

Back to School
August 31, 2026

As families prepared for the start of a new school year, the Greater Ridgecrest YMCA welcomed more than 500 community members to its annual Back-to-School Bash, bringing together local organizations, volunteers and community partners for a day focused on supporting students and strengthening families.

The event provided more than 300 backpacks filled with school supplies, helping ensure local students had the tools they needed to begin the school year with confidence. Families connected with community resources, visited health and safety booths, received free haircuts and enjoyed a day filled with music, bounce houses, food and activities for all ages. Children even had the opportunity to meet the pilots of a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office helicopter and learn about aviation and public safety through an interactive Q&A.

Events like the Back-to-School Bash demonstrate the power of community partnerships. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, nonprofit organizations and volunteers, families were able to access valuable resources while building connections with organizations dedicated to supporting their success throughout the school year.

By removing barriers and providing essential resources, the YMCA of the Suncoast continues its commitment to strengthening communities and helping every child begin the school year ready to learn, grow and thrive.
