Running with Purpose, Remembering Together

Freedom Run
September 30, 2026

More than 100 participants came together at the Hernando Family YMCA for the annual Freedom Run, a 5K run and 1-mile walk held in remembrance of 9/11 and those we lost.

The annual event gave runners and walkers of all ages an opportunity to get active while gathering around a shared purpose. From those taking on the 5K course to families participating in the 1-mile walk, the morning brought the community together through movement, reflection and remembrance.

Events like the Freedom Run reflect the YMCA’s commitment to healthy living by creating opportunities for people to stay active in ways that go beyond physical wellness. Exercising alongside friends, family and neighbors can build connections, encourage one another and create a greater sense of belonging.

The event was made possible through the support of volunteers, sponsors and community partners who helped bring the day together. Their involvement, along with more than 100 participants who joined us, helped make this year’s Freedom Run a meaningful morning of activity and remembrance for the Hernando community.
