The YMCA of the Suncoast is proud to partner with Pasco County Schools to provide students with meaningful learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. At the James P. Gills Family YMCA, our Teen Intern Program is a strong reflection of this collaboration, giving youth the opportunity to develop leadership and job readiness skills while working alongside YMCA staff and mentoring younger campers. Recently, the Pasco County Schools Communications and Community Engagement team visited the YMCA to lead an interactive session focused on communications, marketing, branding and storytelling.

The interactive session encouraged interns to ask questions, think creatively and develop practical skills they can apply both in school and in future careers. Partnerships like this enrich the YMCA experience by connecting young people with local professionals who inspire confidence, broaden perspectives and help prepare the next generation of leaders.

Throughout the summer, Teen Intern Program participants build self-confidence, strengthen communication and teamwork skills, earn certifications in Basic Life Support, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen and gain meaningful hands-on experience that prepares them for future success. Opportunities like this communications workshop enhance the program by exposing interns to professionals in the field and helping them explore future career paths.

By combining real-world learning opportunities with strong community partnerships, the YMCA continues to empower young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to learn, grow and thrive.
