Small changes today can lead to life-changing results tomorrow.
If you're concerned about your risk for Type 2 diabetes and want to take control of your health, the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can help. This 12-month, CDC-recognized lifestyle change program empowers participants to build healthier habits through education, accountability, physical activity and ongoing support.
Led by a trained Coach, this program is built for those who are pre-diabetic to provide practical strategies that fit real life, helping you make meaningful changes that last long after the program ends.
More than one in three adults has prediabetes, and many don't know it.
You may be at increased risk for Type 2 diabetes if you:
- Have been told your blood sugar is higher than normal
- Are overweight
- Have a family history of diabetes
- Are 45 years of age or older
- Have high blood pressure
- Are physically inactive
Prediabetes often has no noticeable symptoms, making early intervention especially important.
If you're unsure whether you're at risk, taking a diabetes risk assessment is a great place to start.
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is an evidence-based lifestyle change program designed to help adults reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes through sustainable behavior change.
Rather than focusing on restrictive diets or quick fixes, the program teaches practical skills that help participants make healthier choices every day. Along the way, participants receive encouragement from a trained Lifestyle Coach and support from others working toward similar goals.
Throughout the program, participants work toward two proven objectives:
- Losing 7% of their starting body weight
- Achieving at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week
Research has shown that these lifestyle changes can significantly reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes while improving overall health and well-being.
The program is delivered over the course of one year, providing the time and support needed to create lasting change.
