At the YMCA of the Suncoast, strengthening community means creating a welcoming environment where everyone can participate, build friendships and feel valued.

Through Mainstream Adults Sharing Hope (M.A.S.H.), adults ages 18 and older with physical and cognitive disabilities have a place to socialize, explore new interests and develop meaningful relationships.

With 98 participants enrolled at the John Geigle YMCA, M.A.S.H. offers a variety of activities, from fitness classes and Zumba nights to talent shows that give participants a chance to express themselves and celebrate their talents.

Recently, the program introduced small group personal training to help participants work toward individual wellness goals.

One participant, Julia, has been working toward a healthier lifestyle through the program. Her father, Jean Faust, shared how meaningful the experience has been for his daughter, providing not only something to look forward to each week but a chance to learn the value of hard work and determination. With support from YMCA staff, Julia continues to make steady progress toward her personal fitness goals.

Julia's experience is one example of how M.A.S.H. helps participants gain independence, celebrate personal achievements and build relationships that enrich their lives.

At the YMCA of the Suncoast, we believe everyone deserves a place where they can be themselves, pursue their goals and know they belong.
