Keep Children Safe Around Water

Be Water Smart from the Start


There is a list of basic life skills all parents instinctively know they must teach their children to keep them safe and healthy. It includes habits like looking both ways before you cross the street, washing your hands, eating the right amount of fruits and vegetables every day. Safety in and around the water should be on the list too. 

May is National Water Safety Month and the Y has programs to engage parents about the importance of water safety skills and provide more children access to water safety and swimming lessons.

Summer Camp PAC Endorses Candidate

The YMCA of the Suncoast and the Summer Camp PAC have endorsed Zoe for President. Earlier this year the YMCA of the USA launched the campaign to elect a one-year-old girl as our nation’s Commander in Chief...in 2064. The campaign highlights the potential the Y sees in all kids to grow up and change the world if they’re nurtured properly and supported along the way.

The Greater Palm Harbor YMCA is hosting the 11th Annual Kids' Fishing Challenge presented by Florida Hospital North Pinellas on Saturday, June 4. The catch and release fishing event will give up to 250 children ages 12 and under the opportunity to fish at Wall Springs Park in Palm Harbor.

On Tuesday, May 3, Give Day Tampa Bay starts its 24-hour online giving challenge led by the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay and the Florida Next Foundation. Donations are from midnight-to-midnight for local nonprofits like the YMCA of the Suncoast. They have made giving easy. All it takes is a couple of clicks on your smartphone, tablet or computer.

Be Water Smart from the Start

At the Y, we have a deep passion for aquatics and want all kids to learn how to swim. During Safety Around Water Week, we give kids ages 3-12 this opportunity. If your kid is a non-swimmer or a beginner, join us as we teach children basic swimming skills that keep them safe and build their confidence in the water.
