September is Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, and while the dangers of childhood obesity are well chronicled, many families need support changing their children’s habits with the ultimate goal of improving health. That’s why the YMCA — a leading community-based organization dedicated to improving health—wants families to understand the dangers of childhood obesity and ways to reverse course through improved eating habits and increased physical activity.

22nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament

The J.P. Gills Family YMCA 22nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament will be on Friday, Sept 30. The event will be held at the scenic Fox Hollow Golf Club in Trinity and it's limited to the first 120 participants. This will be an excellent day on the links all while helping the Y with their mission to strengthen the community.

YMCA of the Suncoast Golf TournamentThe event tees off with a lunch and registration from 12-1 p.m. This is a four person scramble tournament with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Each golfer will receive a polo shirt, goody bag, lunch and buffet dinner.

5K Run and 1 Mile Kids’ Dash

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. The YMCA of the Suncoast is taking a stand against bullying. The Greater Ridgecrest Y and the Pinellas School Age Program will host the 3rd Annual Run, Walk, Rally Against Bullying 5K Run and 1 Mile Kids’ Dash. Show your support and take your stand at the finish line. Start and Finish at the Y.

Preparing All Youth for Success

Stem (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) jobs are growing at a rapid pace.  These jobs, typically come with high earning potential, yet women and people of color are unrepresented in these fields.

The Y is working to close the gender gap and address racial and ethnic disparities in access to STEM education.

Join the YMCA of the Suncoast on Tuesday, November 1, for the annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort, on Clearwater Beach from 7 to 9 a.m. This is the 11th Anniversary for the YMCA of the Suncoast to host this event, which brings together the community for the purpose of prayer and fellowship.

A Fundraiser Benefiting Camp COAST

Spice It Up for a great cause-- taste and vote for some delicious chili or participate and make your own chili, plus enter to win great prizes donated by local businesses.  NEW this year-- a salsa contest has been added, and there will be games, crafts, bounce houses and Great Explorations!

The Clearwater YMCA is hosting this event to raise money for Camp COAST (Children on the Autism Spectrum Together), a summer day camp for children on the spectrum living in Pinellas County.

Kids can swim, bike and run their way around the YMCA campus for a fun fitness challenge.

Quality Afterschool Programs are Key to Developing Youth

When the school day ends, children and teens need opportunities to learn and engage in meaningful activities. Their success out of school can have a positive effect on their success in school. Unfortunately, 19%[1]of children in Florida are left unsupervised after 3 p.m., according to Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit public awareness advocacy organization. 

To help youth reach their full potential, the YMCA of the Suncoast is offering afterschool programming that supports social-emotional, cognitive and physical development.
