There is a list of basic life skills all parents instinctively know they must teach their children to keep them safe and healthy. It includes habits like looking both ways before you cross the street, washing your hands with soap and water and eating the right amount of fruits and vegetables every day.

For too many parents, safety in and around water is not on the list; and that's something we need to change.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. The YMCA of the Suncoast is taking a stand against bullying. The Greater Ridgecrest Y and the Pinellas School Age Program will host the 2nd Annual Run, Walk, Rally Against Bullying 5K Run and 1 Mile Kids’ Dash. The Greater Palm Harbor YMCA hosts the 8th Annual Kids Triathlon “Swim, Bike, Run for Freedom” on Sunday, September 13.

This youth triathlon event is sponsored by The Heart & Vascular Institute of Florida. The opening ceremonies are dedicated to all those who served our country and especially to those heroes who perished on September 11, 2001.
