Kids and Adults are bound to serve up success when they participate in volleyball programs at the Y! Our youth volleyball programs not only teach the fundamentals of the game, kids meet new friends and develop teamwork. They'll also build character and self-esteem, traits that we know will lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational success.
Children will have the opportunity to learn the basic volleyball fundamentals such as underhand serving, setting, hitting and digging in a non-competitive environment.
It's not just kid's stuff! Adult volleyball at the YMCA is a great way to meet new people, get active and step away from life's every day stress. Enjoy the adrenaline rush of playing the game, being a part of a team and being active in a fun non-competitive atmosphere. Adult sports are a great way to socialize with peers that have similar goals and interest.
Volleyball is one of the world's most popular sports and for a good reason. The game was designed to capture the best of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball. Players learn basic rules and fundamental skills as well as the benefit of encouraging their teammates and working together. Join a team, and learn the game from the organization where the sport was invented!
Did you know in 1895, William G. Morgan, an instructor at the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts, sought to invent a game that would involve less contact than basketball? The result was volleyball. At the time the net was just 6 feet 6 inches high, a little taller than the average man.
Volleyball soon became extremely popular in the USA and, throughout the Y network, spread first to other parts of the Americas and then to the world.
