Youth Leadership Pinellas

Youth Leadership Pinellas (YLP) is a joint program of Leadership Pinellas and the YMCA of the Suncoast.  Leadership Pinellas is non-partisan and in no way is a political activist group.  The daily operation, class organization, and program management of Youth Leadership Pinellas is managed through a partnership with the YMCA of the Suncoast.

Youth Leadership Pinellas is a seven-month program, operating from November through May.  Participants meet for five full day sessions, plus an orientation retreat and graduation event.  The program is run separate from any school-sponsored program.

CPR/AED First Aid Certification Classes

Classes will be held at the North Pinellas Branch YMCA.  CPR/AED certifications are valid for one year. First Aid certifications are valid for three years. Participants may attend CPR/AED portion only if they choose, but MUST register for entire course. Evening classes are two-part classes and participants MUST plan to attend both sessions for certification. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive American Red Cross CPR certification.  Participant must successfully complete all skills and pass written test with 80%, for certification. For more information or to register for a class, please visit our Member Service Desk. Adult classes meet from 6-10:00 pm, Child/Infant classes meet from 5-10 pm.

PYP Piranhas Swim Team

We are a year-round competitive swim program where a positive and supportive environment is established to help improve stroke, technique, skills and goals for each individual swimmer in the program. PYP will build good people and good swimmers through constant attention to teaching and training.

Each workout group is designed to develop ability levels working toward individual goals which may include reaching Junior Olympic, YMCA Nationals, Sectional or National level qualifying times.

We help you become the swimmer you have the potential to be!

Leaders Club

This is a club that focuses on Volunteerism, Leadership, and Fitness.  We have weekly meetings to plan and coordinate volunteer opportunities, learn leadership qualities, and  support each other to stay healthy through fitness goals.

Leaders Club Kick-Off: September 13, 2010 at 6:30pm in the Conference Room

Weekly Meetings will meet Every Monday, from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the Conference Room.

Age: 13-18 years old

Annual Fee: $75 for Facility Members/ $100 for Program Members

Junior Leaders Club

This is a club that gets our younger members a place to belong and focus on volunteering, leadership and fitness.

Junior Leaders Club Kick Off: September 13, 2010 at 6:30pm in the Conference Room

Monthly Meetings will be the 2nd Monday of every month during the school year.

Annual Fee: $25 for Facility Members/ $45 for Program Members

Youth In Government

Do you like to debate?  Do you want to stand up and change the laws in Florida.  Youth In Government or YIG is a club that meets on school campus that teaches civics and  government.  A trip in February to Tallassee finishes the year off.  Be a part at East Lake or Countryside High School, Contact Mike Henniger at mhenniger@suncoastymca.org  for more information.

Teen Center

Our Teen Center is equipped with a pool table, air hockey, foosball, and much more. Pre-Teens and Teens can hang out and have fun while parents work out or just come to play!

Dance Revolution/Wii Sports/Ping-Pong/Chess/Pool Tournaments

All events are held periodically in the Teen center. Dates and times are posted monthly in Teen center.

Tae Kwon Do

Our program combines challenging drills and fun activities in a structured environment to develop strength, flexibility, coordination and realistic self-defense skills. Students may participate in classes above their skill level, and are encouraged to attend four, or more, classes per week.

Age: 4 and up

Tennis with Anne-Marie Lunde

Middle/High School Intermediate; A progression from advanced beginner level. Can hit ground strokes and serve fairly well from baseline. Working new strokes, rallying and playing points against classmates.

Schedule: Tuesdays, 7-8:00 pm – September 7th –September 28th
Fee: $53 Facility Members; $66 Program Members (4 week session)
