Aquatics Program
CPR/AED Certification Classes
CPR/AED certifications are valid for two years through the American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI). Participants must complete all skills and pass a written test with a 77% or higher. Cost of the class includes a book and certification card at completion of class.
Participants learn to:
- Perform CPR on an adult, infant, and child
- Recognize the signs of sudden cardiac arrest, heart attack and stroke
- Relive foreign-body airway obstruction
- Use and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

SCUBA
Hernando YMCA of the Suncoast, in collaboration with instructor Mark Butler, offers the national recognized YMCA SCUBA certification course. Students are not required to be proficient swimmers, but more importantly are comfortable in the water, and different water settings. Classes are held inside the YMCA pool with two off-site open water dives. Students will need a swim suit, towel, their own snorkel and masks (items can be purchased on the first day of class) - all other equipment will be provided. Water Aerobics
The water aerobics programs have become the standard forms of exercise in the swimming pool. The programs involve traditional shallow fitness levels and deep water classes for the beginner, intermediate or advanced. Music, special equipment and games may be used to enhance the intensity, variety and enjoyment of the program.

from 5:30-7:00 pm, Monday-Thursday
Meets are held on weekends
Swim Lessons
Classes meet two times a week (Monday/Wednesday OR Tuesday/Thursday) for four weeks or once a week on Saturdays for six weeks.

parent/child (6 months- 3 years)
Introductory swim class for parent and child. Learn swim basics and water safety skills with your child. Help your child through the steps of water adjustment to propelling themselves through the water. Lessons are 30 minutes. |

pike/eel (3- 5 years)
Pike/Eel-requires little or no water experience. The following skills are included in class: blowing bubbles, paddle stroke, face in the water, intro to rotary breathing, back floating, work toward swimming without flotation, and safety skills. |

ray/starfish (3-5years)
Requires child to swim 30 feet without floatation comfortably and demonstrate rotary breathing. The following skills are worked on during this level: arm coordination with rotary breathing, back stroke, treading water and safety skills. |

Youth (6 and older)
All youth programs encourages personal safety, personal growth, water games and sports, basic rescues, and stroke development. Lessons are 45 minutes long (except Saturdays which are 1 hour)

Beginner class. The following skills are presented at this level: Front glide, flutter kick, paddle stroke with progression to front crawl, rotary breathing, back stroke and safety skills. |

Child must be able to swim Front Crawl with rotary breathing 25 yards. The following skills will be worked on during this level: Front Crawl endurance, back stroke, elementary backstroke, intro to breaststroke, dolphin kick and safety skills. |

Adult & Teen Swim Lessons
The Adult Aquatic Program provides swimming education for adults at a variety of different levels from terrified of the water to stroke development. The class is taught at the student's pace with guidance from an instructor.
