Family Programs

The YMCA of the Suncoast, Citrus County Program Branch is rapidly growing!! Programs are being offered throughout the County at area schools, churches and community centers. Please see below for our current program offerings.

YMCA of the Suncoast

The YMCA of the Suncoast is a charitable, non-profit organization that serves over 84,000 members and program participants through 9 facilities in Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, and now, Citrus counties. Our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. We offer a supportive environment for youth, teens, families, adults, and seniors where relationships are built and healthy lifestyles are encouraged for all.

An Advisory Board has been formed to lead the YMCA decision making for Citrus County and is comprised of the following Citrus County community members:

Open Doors In these tough economic times, we're all feeling the stresses and pressures that have emerged with our nation's recession. At the YMCA, we want to take the pressure off and provide an avenue for everyone to be involved.

 

Volunteers: Your Help is Needed

All of the programs at the YMCA are volunteer driven. We utilize caring adults as coaches, referees, team parents, administrative assistance, and more. When signing your child up to participate, please consider helping where you can.

Programs for Health and Wellness

Wellness-Group Exercise

Interested in boot camp, cardio aerobics, or any other type of group exercise class? The YMCA of Citrus County will be offering a few group exercise classes during the week at Cornerstone Baptist Church located in Inverness.

Schedule: Ongoing classes begin January 4th
Fee: $30/10 classes.  Punchcard will be issued at time of registration.
Childcare is available at $2/class.
Time: Each class is 45 minutes in length

 

Class Descriptions

Cardio Interval: This cardio training uses a variety of choreographed combinations and is great for burning calories and increasing endurance. You will wrap up this workout with 10 minutes of abs and stretching.

Cardio Kickboxing: A high and/or low impact cardio training using a variety of jabs, kicks and choreographed combinations. This workout also includes a variety of muscular and cardiovascular endurance components.

Pilates: A holistic approach for all levels to physical and mental health. This approach consists of a series of controlled, flowing movement that promotes flexibility, improves posture and develops a stronger core.

Stability and Strength: This low-impact exercise class is designed to help individuals stay active and healthy working on flexibility, stability and strength of muscles while introducing a little cardio.

Tone and Trim: A quick cardiovascular warm-up starts the class followed by various muscle conditioning exercises and brief Cardio Intervals.

Family Fun Night

Families, come enjoy a night out with the YMCA Staff. A great evening filled with dinner, activities, and games. Sign up today as space is limited!  To register contact the office at 352-637-0132.

Parent's Night Out

Parents, enjoy a night out while we watch your children in a safe and fun environment.  Children will play games, eat dinner and do fun activities with experienced childcare staff.  Best of all, parents will get the night off!  Sign up today as space is limited! Teen Night

Want to get out of the house and have some fun?  Come join us for YMCA Teen Night with Games, Sports, Food, & Fun!

Date:  Saturday, September 18th

Time:  6:00—9:00pm

Location:  1700 Forest Drive, Inverness (Whispering Pines Park Recreation Building)

Cost:  $5.00 per person

Group Exercise-Y Stroll

A new exercise program for mom and baby.  Each one-hour outdoor class includes intervals of power walking, functional strength training and cardio drills followed by brief core work and flexibility.

Schedule:  Ongoing classes
Fee:  $30/10 classes. (Punch card will be issued at time of registration.)
Items Needed:  A non-tipping stroller, water, hat or sunblock for mom and baby and a   towel/mat for ground exercises.
Location: Liberty Park Trail (meet at Pavilion 1)

Afterschool Enrichment Programs

 There are four sessions of enrichment programs that will be offered during the 2010-2011 school year that are based in various areas from Art to Sports. A few of these enrichment programs include: Cheerdance, Basketball, Art, Drama, Science, Cooking, and Soccer. Afterschool enrichment programs meet one day a week for a six-week period from 3:30-4:40pm. Children in every school will receive a flyer with the days that each program is offered.

All sessions are 6 weeks, and are $40 per session, and are available to children from Kindergarten—5th grade.  Registration is due by September 7th in the Inverness office. 

The first Fall Session of Enrichment will be offered at the following schools with the programs listed below:
