There is a list of basic life skills all parents instinctively know they must teach their children to keep them safe and healthy. It includes habits like looking both ways before you cross the street, washing your hands with soap and water and eating the right amount of fruits and vegetables every day.
For too many parents, safety in and around water is not on the list; and that's something we need to change.
Join the YMCA of the Suncoast on Tuesday, November 3, for the annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort, on Clearwater Beach from 7 to 9 a.m. This is the 10th Anniversary for the YMCA of the Suncoast to host this event, which brings together the community for the purpose of prayer and fellowship. Prayers begin at 7:30 a.m.
After 35 years of service with the YMCA movement and the past 14 years as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the YMCA of the Suncoast in Clearwater, Elizabeth “Liz” Dubuque will retire on July 15.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. The YMCA of the Suncoast is taking a stand against bullying. The Greater Ridgecrest Y and the Pinellas School Age Program will host the 2nd Annual Run, Walk, Rally Against Bullying 5K Run and 1 Mile Kids’ Dash. Show your support and take your stand at the finish line. Start and Finish at the Y.
Community Programs Feed Low-Income Children over the Summer
When summer comes along, kids and teens have plenty to look forward to: pool time, sports camp, three months of freedom and no homework. But some low-income kids might actually be looking forward to their next meal.
The Greater Palm Harbor YMCA hosts the 8th Annual Kids Triathlon “Swim, Bike, Run for Freedom” on Sunday, September 13.
This youth triathlon event is sponsored by The Heart & Vascular Institute of Florida. The opening ceremonies are dedicated to all those who served our country and especially to those heroes who perished on September 11, 2001.
Summer is here, the kids are out of school, and Father’s Day is just around the corner. While many children will give a gift to dad on Father’s Day, families may also plan to spend time together. YMCA of the Suncoast honors dad with these ideas for healthy activities the whole family can enjoy.
